Year 9 kid stepped in to stop a bully and a fight broke out. The bully has family issues, the other has a great heart. Guess who got suspended? The kid with the heart. He didn't throw a punch until one was coming for him. Bright kid, thinks faster than the adults around him — and gets punished for it. We wonder why these kids stop trusting us by Year 10.
Year 8 girl reading at university level. School insists she keep doing the work the slowest kid in her stream can keep up with. She asks if she can sit in the library at lunch and read what she chooses. We told her no. Then we wonder why she stops talking.
